I am lucky that I can refuse to purchase software from these abusive publishers. Intuit is one of the worst offenders, but hardly the only one. I have experienced the same hubris regarding Quickbooks on Windows XP and later. The problem of large application publishers assuming their software needs to and deserves to run with administrator rights is neither just a TurboTax problem nor just a Mac problem. I am not surprised to learn that the bug has reappeared. That left a giant security hole, of course. The next year, Intuit "fixed" the bug, but all they did was set up permissions so that any account could write to the TurboTax application package. And yes, I hated it from a security perspective. That year I fixed the problem myself by loosening permissions restrictions on the TurboTax application package as discussed above.

Years ago, I reported this bug to Intuit. I know, because I have always run with two accounts: an admin account for operating system updates, software installation, etc. TurboTax file permission issues have appeared on and off again for many years.

This year, as always, I installed TurboTax under my non-admin account and I have had no permission problems whatsoever.
